This user study was carried out at the library at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg in the spring of 1999. Chalmers wanted to investigate how much their employees use electronic journals. To facilitate decision-making and be cost effective, the library needed to know about their customers' opinions. The main purpose was to investigate the usage of electronic journals, how the library's choice of these journals affects the frequency of use and what the attitudes towards them are. A questionnaire was sent out to 2 400 employees; 477 replies were received.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the information need of the incubators that comes from Chalmers University of Technology and are situated at Chalmers Innovation. It is also of interest to investigate how Chalmers University Library covers this information need. The investigation was carried out using qualitative interviews with representatives of the incubators. They were asked questions about the perceived need of information and which type of contacts they had with the library. The result is that the incubators feel that there is a great need for business information that is hard to find.

Chalmers University of Technology today have numerous computers which are never powereddown, at the same time there is a need for more computation power for researchers.Hence, we have investigated the possibility to use the computers for computing power andsecondly, if there is no work to be done, to put them into power saving mode.We have made a thorough study where we compared different distributing systems andin the end HTCondor was chosen as the best to implement. HTCondor is an excellent systemfor opportunistic use of computing power, i.e. make use of computers that no one elseis currently using. The system is used at several universities around the world with goodresults and would be excellent at Chalmers, where there is a need for such a system.Our implementation shows that HTCondor is well capable of handling unused computingpower. HTCondor can handle most file types that may be run on the system.

Denna rapport beskriver utvecklingen av ChalmersAppen, en applikation för smarttelefoner med operativsystemet Android. Studenter på Chalmers tekniska högskola har behov av att nå flera olika webbsidor på Internet. Med tanke på att smarttelefoner ökar bland studenter kan studietiden underlättas med hjälp av en applikation som samlar den viktigaste informationen från de mest använda webbsidorna på ett ställe. Målet med ChalmersAppen var att den skulle utföra denna uppgift och vara användarvänlig.Som underlag till framtagandet av applikationen genomfördes en enkätundersökning bland studenterna. Undersökningen visade att det fanns intresse för en sådan applikation och vilka funktioner som var viktigast att ha med.

This paper analyzes the content of eight Islamic Friday-sermons, held at Chalmers Technical University in Gothenburg in spring 2010, organized by Chalmers Islamiska Förening (CIF) (Chalmers Islamic community).The forces of globalization, the accessibility of information and the Internet have given rise to discourses and movements that know no national boundaries. The accessibility of these global movements and discourses through media, Internet, etc., affect the way Muslims in Sweden interpret and practice their religion. Thus, this paper includes discussions and descriptions of global Islamic revivalist-movements, and relates the contents of the sermons at Chalmers to these movements. In the sermons, the imams often discuss the concept of a global Muslim community, the umma, and their perceptions of the prescribed ethics linked to this community. They often relate this discussion of ethics to frequently discussed issues in the West such as equality, justice and ethical standards in war.

Systemet har utvecklats som ettkandidatarbete vid Data- och IT-institutionen vid Chalmers Tekniska Högskola, Göteborg. Projektgruppen har bestått av sex teknikstuderande från Chalmers och Göteborgs Universitet.Resultatet är ett fungerande system bestående av två delar: en dörrskylt meddisplay samt en basstation som hämtar meddelanden från Twitter. Skyltenoch basstationen kommunicerar via en radiolänk.Projektets huvudsakliga fokus ligger på energieffektivitet hos skylten. Även användarvänlighet och robusta kommunikationsprotokoll har prioriterats.Som en del i projektets fokus på energieffektivitet har tekniker för strömsnåla displayer, radiokommunikationsmoduler och microcontrollerplattformar undersökts och använts.

The purpose of this essay is to examine what happens with library e-resources after implementing the discovery tool Summon. Summon provides a Google-like experience and uses multiple facet options when users need to narrow their discovery. Observations of change in the libraries e-resources with regards to database searches, click-throughs in linkresolvers and full text downloads are examined through looking at earlier reports and statistics from libraries in America and England. This provides a way to compare with Chalmers University of Technology?s Library.

SammanfattningVi har i vårt fördjupningsarbete ingått i ett samarbete mellan Högskolan i Borås och Chalmers Tekniska Högskola, vi har därigenom fått ta del av genomförda forskningsprojekt mellan Chalmers Tekniska Högskola och fordonsindustrin, främst Volvo. Syftet med vårt fördjupningsarbete är att belysa makt och kontroll inom vissa delar av fordonsindustrin under perioden 1990-2005, specifikt har vi undersökt vilka uttryck kontrollen tagit sig på verkstadsgolvet i de båda produktionssystemen, löpandeband respektive alternativ montering. Vi granskar diverse argument för och emot alternativ montering, sedan presenterar vi våra skilda erfarenheter av de båda produktionssystemen, samt vår gemensamma förförståelse av att alternativ montering är att föredra samt att en tydlig kontroll inte gynnar människan. Vi har gjort en genomgång av tidigare forskning bl.a. inom områdena egenkontroll och ledarskap, och även tittat på valet av kontroll eller motivation som en styrningsstrategi.

The Division of Language and Communication at Chalmers uses a web-based language tool, named EngOnline, to teach English grammar. The language tool suffers from some shortcomings. These include stability problems and an outdated interface but, above all, there is no documentation. Because of the lack of documentation and EngOnline?s need of maintenance, the Division of Language and Communication has decided to replace the language tool with a new and well documented one.The new language tool was developed using an agile work process; detailed documentation was replaced with more efficient communication.

Den här uppsatsen handlar om hur tekniska hjälpmedel används i undervisningen, vad när och hur. Uppsatsen tar även upp författares syn på tekniska hjälpmedel samt resultaten utifrån de observationer vi utfört inom området, som redovisas ur en positiv synvinkel. Syftet med uppsatsen är att ta reda på om pedagogerna i de observerade klasserna använder sig av tekniska hjälpmedel i undervisningen. Studien är kvalitativ och består av observationer i tre klasser, åk 1,4 och 5. Resultatet visar att den tekniska användningen i de observerade klasserna är varierad, men den finns där!.
